White Named SEC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week

BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU senior Tre’Davious White was named the SEC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week the league announced Monday morning after helping the Tigers to a 34-13 win over the Jacksonville State Gamecocks in Tiger Stadium last Saturday night.

The weekly award is the first for the Shreveport, Louisiana, native in his LSU career, as he shares honors this week with Auburn placekicker Daniel Carlson.

With the Tigers sporting a 20-10 lead, the Tiger defense forced JSU to punt from its own 14-yard line late in the second quarter, where after eventually retreating LSU’s 19-yard line, raced 60 yards the other way for the score to give the Tigers a 27-10 with 20 seconds to go in the first half.

With the touchdown, White became the first LSU non-offensive player to score touchdowns in the first two games of the season since former Tiger Jonathan Zenon in 2006, as White also returned an interception for a touchdown two weeks ago against Wisconsin.

White has scored each of the last three special teams touchdowns for LSU dating back to 2014, as he moved into a tie for second place for the most all-time by any LSU player in a career, and one away from tying the record of four held by Skyler Green.

LSU opens SEC play this Saturday night, hosting the Mississippi State Bulldogs at 6 p.m. in Tiger Stadium. The game will be shown live on ESPN2 and WatchESPN.
