Diamond in the Rough: Phillip Jackson

Phillip Jackson is a 5’7 180lbs senior defensive back at Bastrop High School in Bastrop, Louisiana. Jackson runs a 4.5 in the 40-yard dash, can bench press 280, and squats 375. Jackson registered 3 tackles in the Louisiana Gridiron Football bowl game.

When did you get introduced to the game of football?

I was six years old when I started playing football in the yard.

What is something you have learned while playing football?

I have learned responsibilities and respect.

Do you have any football players that inspire you or you can compare your style of play to?

I like watching Jalen Ramsey and “The Honey Badger” Tyrann Mathieu.

What helps you stay successful at playing football?

I just keep putting in the work trying to get better and better.

What is your greatest strength on the football field?

My vision is my greatest strength because I can read the plays before they run it.

What is a part of your game that you are trying to improve?

I’m always trying to get my speed up and improve my coverage skills especially my man-to-man coverage.

What do your coaches say about you?

My coaches like that I am versatile and that I can play any position in the secondary.

What did you think about the Louisiana Gridiron Football bowl game you played in recently?

It was a good experience I got to meet a ton of new coaches and a lot of great athletes. I really enjoyed playing in it.
